The Pink Lake, whose real name is Lake Retba, is one of the main places of tourist interest in Senegal, located north of Dakar.
Often a victim of mass tourism, it is not easy to truly appreciate the moment at the lake, especially if one is influenced by the opinions of others.
First of all, you should know that the Pink Lake is not always rosy. To be able to appreciate the view of the lake in pink, it is better to go there between May and October.
For my part, during my pirogue ride in 2019, I rather observed an orange-pink lake, far from the candy-pink lake that we see on Instagram photos, do not get me wrong! But the color of the lake at the time of my visit was still very beautiful to see!
In truth, the color of the lake depends entirely on the weather: if it's a full sunny day, you'll have the chance to sail on a resplendent pink water!
On my itinerary, I was able to visit the biggest salt exploitation of West Africa which is located on the southern shore of the lake. It is possible that Senegalese salesmen will come to you to buy salt from them, good Senegalese salt!
Of course, you can also swim there, I didn't bring my bathing stuff, but you can enjoy a swim in a colorful water!
