Located in Southern Africa, Namibia is a large country with a wealth of natural, cultural and tourist attractions.

Natural areas, cities, safari parks, excursions, this country abounds in an infinity of activities to do during your stay there.

Today, I suggest you 5 things to do if you plan to go there sooner or later.

Venture out into the Sossusvlei Desert

Namibia is very famous for its deserts: did you know that it is home to the Namib, the oldest desert in the world?

Just like this desert you can visit others, such as the Sossusvlei salt and clay desert located in the Namib National Park.

It is clearly one of the most beautiful deserts in the world!

Located in the south, a few hours from the capital (Windhoek), there are huge red sand dunes that can exceed 400 meters high! A real paradise if you are a photography lover!

You can also observe animals and plants in the region.

In short, this place is a must-see in Namibia!

Visit the Fish River Canyon

The canyon in the south of Namibia is also a must-see.

It is simply the second largest canyon in the world, after the famous American Grand Canyon!

There, the summer starts in October and ends in March. Temperatures can reach 48°c during the day.

The landscapes and the panoramas of this 160 kilometers long canyon are breathtaking.

You can enjoy the canyon in many ways: walking along the river while watching the sunrise offers absolute tranquility with a great view.

If you are really motivated, you can also go hiking, you will need a permit from the center and your hike will take several days.

Visit the Sand House

While in the Sossuvlei Desert, take the opportunity to visit the town of Kolmanskop!

It is a very particular city because it is abandoned!

Indeed, it is a former mining city famous for its diamond exploitation.

Then, after the first world war, the city was abandoned and today we can find some buildings on which the nature took back its rights because they are covered with sand! Hence the name, the house of sand!

The atmosphere is at the same time strange but extraordinary!

Safari in Etosha National Park

Etosha National Park is one of the most popular nature reserves in Africa and the most visited place in Namibia!

This park is a great place to go on safari! During your journey, you are bound to encounter zebras, elephants, lions, springboks, giraffes, and many more!

The park can be visited all year round, although the dry season during the southern winter (June to October) is best if you want to see a large number of mammals, which are more easily seen around the few waterholes.

The park has many waterholes, some natural and some man-made, which are likely to offer exceptional wildlife sightings.

Some camps, such as Okaukuejo, offer the unique experience of visiting illuminated water bodies for night viewing.

Relax in Swakopmund

Swakopmund is a small seaside resort on the Atlantic coast of Namibia, but it is also the second most important tourist destination after the capital Windhoek.

It is the place where you can find the most activities such as desert wildlife tours, quad biking, water sports such as jet skiing, sightseeing flights, scenic cruises or even parachute jumps! If you want to try some thrills, this is your chance!

You will also find great places to eat and drink with German specialties such as the Old Steamer Restaurant but also local specialties such as Braai or Mieliepap!
